Fossil Energy

Fossil energy refers to energy derived from fossil fuels, which are natural resources formed from the remains of ancient plants and animals buried under layers of earth over millions of years. The main types of fossil fuels include:

Types of Fossil Energy

  1. Coal: A solid fossil fuel primarily used for electricity generation and steel production. It is abundant but has significant environmental impacts, including air pollution and high greenhouse gas emissions.
  2. Oil (Petroleum): A liquid fossil fuel used for transportation fuels (like gasoline and diesel), heating, and as a raw material for various chemical products. Oil extraction and combustion are major contributors to carbon emissions.
  3. Natural Gas: A gaseous fossil fuel mainly composed of methane, used for heating, electricity generation, and as an industrial feedstock. Natural gas is often considered a “cleaner” fossil fuel, as it produces less CO2 than coal and oil when burned but still contributes to greenhouse gas emissions.
